Stop female foeticide: Patil

Amritsar: President Pratibha Devisingh Patil called for ending the inhumane practice of female foeticide in order to pave way for the country to move towards development.

The President was speaking on Wednesday at the event “Nanhi Chaon” at Khalsa College in Amritsar. Patil also pointed out that there are several other inhumane practices still prevalent in the society. She called for eliminating the difference between a male and a female child.

Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal who was also present at the event, announced that the girl students of ninth and tenth standard in the state. The state government also plans to open new toll free helplines and counselling centres in the districts across the state. Governor Shivraj Patil and MP Harsimrat Kaur, who were also present at the event also stressed on the need to stop female foeticide.
